The first edition of the Feira Fermentamóvel will be held by the Department of Microbiology, with the support of the Department of Nutrition and Health and the Graduate Program in Agricultural Microbiology (PPGMBA), next Friday and Saturday in Viçosa.
The event marks the official launch of the Fermentamóvel, a traveling science project coordinated by PPGMBA professor Guilherme Martin, from the Fermented Products Microbiology Laboratory (FERMICRO). The main aim of the project is to disseminate information about fermented food, not only in Viçosa, but in various towns in Zona da Mata, using the Fermentamóvel. The vehicle that gives the project its name has been programmed to travel to various locations, bringing scientific information to the population.
Through the itinerant workshops, the project aims to spread more information about the importance of fermented food for maintaining human health, and to train more people to become entrepreneurs, producing and selling fermented products in a responsible manner.
Over the two days of the events, there will be exhibitions, tastings and sales of fermented products from all over the Viçosa region, such as cheeses, breads and coffees. The program also includes the official presentation of the Fermentamóvel project vehicle, as well as workshops on topics related to beverages and fermented food.
The event is open to the public, and is funded through the Fermentamóvel project by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, with the support of the Dean of Extension and Culture and the Center for Biological and Health Sciences at UFV and the Arthur Bernardes Foundation.
