The month of June begins at PPG Agricultural Microbiology with a talk on anxiety, productivity and mental health with clinical psychologist Isabella Mansur. On Thursday, June 1, at 5pm, she will talk about “Excessive productivity and increased anxiety” to PPG students and other interested parties.

“The academic environment, of course, is already a stressful environment, with many activities, many challenges, so this is a very favorable scenario for anxiety to grow, to develop, bringing the damages that are typical of anxiety. So, at our meeting, I’m going to give very practical tips on how to maintain a good standard of productivity while keeping anxiety under control,” she says. “Good emotional control is fundamental to being able to do activities with more quality, more presence, more attention, more concentration, more clarity. And of course, improving these aspects also improves the quality of what is being produced.”

In the first part of the meeting, Isabella will explain the topic, offering tips to be applied in the daily lives of students and researchers. This will be followed by a discussion with those present. “Mental health is important for all kinds of work. Without it, we can’t develop any project. But, specifically, in the production of a scientist, in which it is necessary to make intense use of cognition, memory, concentration, focus, the ability to relate points, raise questions, it is even more crucial. Anxiety, when in excess, greatly impairs these functions. So controlling anxiety is fundamental to being able to deliver good work.”

The lecture starts at 5pm in room ECS 206.
