Next Wednesday, March 29, the Graduate Program in Agricultural Microbiology is hosting an online lecture with Alan Angeluci, PhD, a professor in the Department of Information and Culture at the School of Communications and Arts (ECA) at the University of São Paulo (USP).
Professor Alan will talk to students and teachers about “Communicating scientific knowledge in times of disinformation”. “I believe that, as scientists, we need to do our mea-culpa more than ever. There’s no point in doing science away from the people, their languages and their perspectives on the world; science that puts itself on a pedestal of intellectual superiority has little to contribute to humanity,” he warns.
In the talk, Alan will present some of the possible strategies for efficient scientific communication, giving examples from throughout history. “It’s important to clarify that fake news is just an update to the new potential of digital, but it has always been used throughout history. The recipe for good communication against disinformation has always been the same and remains the same: make people aware, clarify the biases and unnecessary manipulations, always remembering that quality scientific information must have ethics and the public interest as its absolute obstinacy.”
The lecture will take place at 4pm and can be watched at this link.
