The Agricultural Microbiology Studies Center (NEMA), took part in the 8th edition of Science in the Square last Saturday. The group of students from the Graduate Program in Agricultural Microbiology (PPGMBA) was at the Doutor Arthur Bernardes Municipal School in Viçosa, sharing scientific knowledge with students from nursery school to the 9th grade.

This year, the theme presented by the group was “DNA: the molecule of truth”, inviting the children to learn more about the structure and functioning of DNA. To do so, they were taken on an adventure full of mystery and information.19

“For us, as a group, it’s very gratifying to be able to come face-to-face with the children, showing a part of what we do within the university. These extension projects are always of great interest to us, because they broaden the reach of the university and also provide us with excellent personal experience,” says Lutecia Medina, a member of NEMA and a student representative of the PPG.

Held annually, Ciência na Praça is an extension project that aims to promote a meeting between UFV and the community, arousing interest and curiosity about science among children, teenagers and young people. It is produced in partnership by the Em Rede-Viçosa Program, the Entomology Department (DDE) and the UFV International Relations Directorate (DRI).
